Civic Engagement

Our focus is on connecting citizens, elected officials and county staff with meaningful community involvement. Working together, we can make a difference in the civic life of Dawson County.

Dawson County Government, Dawson County Sheriff's Office and the City of Dawsonville host a community-wide event each quarter to encourage citizen participation in community affairs. Each workshop features a guest speaker. In addition, the Dawsonville mayor, Dawson County manager, and Dawson County sheriff present brief overviews from their respective offices. All workshops are open to the public.

Junior Fire Academy

Dawson County Emergency Services invites all middle school-age students to attend the Junior Fire Academy. For one week each June, cadets learn what it’s like to be a firefighter or EMT as they experience firefighting, search and rescue, CPR, and first aid along with other structured activities. Junior Fire Academy offers fun, educational games and excitement wrapping up with an award banquet on the last day.

Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP)

Students looking for an internship should explore opportunities available in county government. The Georgia County Internship Program was developed through a partnership between the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) and the Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education (ARCHE) to provide college, graduate and technical school students with opportunities to work in counties, allowing these students to gain valuable work experience while learning about local government operations.
